Augustin Hadelich, violin & Orion Weiss, piano

To conclude this season of Doheny Soirées, “one of the outstanding violinists of his generation” (New York Times) will be joined by a pianist possessing “an exceptionally clean technique with virtuosity to spare” (Washington Post). After all, “when you’re named after one of the biggest constellations in the night sky, the pressure is on to display a little star power — and the young pianist Orion Weiss [does] exactly that” (Washington Post). Hadelich’s “tremendous technical fluency…even poetic communication” (New York Times) will enliven violin sonatas by Beethoven (No. 4 in a, Op. 23), Brahms (No. 2 in A, Op. 100), Debussy (in g, L. 140) and Ysaÿe (Sonata No. 6 in E) — along with John Adams’ jaunty Road Movies. “The essence of [his] playing is beauty: reveling in the myriad ways of making a phrase come alive on the violin, delivering the musical message with no technical impediments whatsoever, and thereby revealing something from a plane beyond ours” (Washington Post).
