Camerata Pacifica’s “Why Beethoven?” project continues, and the 30th season opens, with a program featuring Beethoven’s Piano Trio in B-flat Major, Op. 97, “Archduke”. Dedicated to one of his closest patrons, Archduke Rudolph of Austria, as the Eroica did the symphony this mighty work redefined the piano trio. (It’s 1814 premiere was Beethoven’s last public appearance at the keyboard.) As a prelude to the Archduke, Lera Auerbach’s wide-ranging 24 Preludes for Violin & Piano will open the concert and the season.
